Wal-Mart Seiyu adopts aggressive price discounting policy
In Japan, Wal-Mart-owned Seiyu yesterday announced that it will no longer sell products at prices higher than its rivals. From today the retailer will reduce product prices to match the levels shown in rival stores' "for-sale" flyers if shoppers present the flyers to the staff. Chief Operating Officer Toru Noda said Seiyu is ready to become the cheapest supermarket outlet in each community, due to its extensive effort to cut costs and Wal-Mart's product supply network. The flyer price-based discounts will be applied to all products except prepared foods, freshly baked bread, alcoholic beverages and subscription sale items.
