Wal-Mart Asda lodges complaint about TESCO ad
Wal-Mart-owned Asda has lodged a formal complaint with the Advertising Standards Authority (ASA) about Tesco’s new advert claiming its groceries are cheaper in the UK. The advert compares the price of a basket of goods at Tesco with a similar basket at Asda. Grocer Asda objected to the validity of the price comparisons in the ad. However, Tesco insisted the data behind its adverts were fair. “We have been very careful. We have researched it and done proper sampling,” said Lucy Neville Rolfe, Tesco’s Corporate Affairs Director. “These are real baskets, randomly selected from Clubcard members,” she added. The Tesco adverts also include comparisons of similar baskets with Morrisons and Sainsbury’s.
