Wal-Mart Asda in the UK sees increase in locally sourced produce sales
Wal-Mart-owned Asda in the UK has seen sales of locally sourced produce increase by 41% in England and Wales between March 2008 and March 2009. The chain now stocks more than 6,000 locally sourced lines, including items such as cooking oil, milk, eggs and sweets. A spokesperson for the grocer said the chain had seen a big increase in the number of locally sourced lines, with 600 new lines coming out over the past year. He added that new branding instore directing customers to locally sourced products had helped boost sales.
