Tesco to cut consultant fees by 20-50%
Tesco is to cut the fees it pays to its consultants by 20-50%, in response to the downturn in the retail sector, according to UK press reports. The chain, generating about GBP1.4 billion of construction work a year in the UK, has written to its consultants, including Turner and Townsend, Faithfull Gold, Rider Levett Bucknall and Cyril Sweett, threatening loss of work if they do not accept the cuts. The letter applies to all works on new stores and extensions in the 2009/10 development programme, though does not apply to distribution centres or the smaller Express stores.
