IKEA sets out goals for 2020
IKEA is targeting sales turnover of EUR45-50 billion (USD56-63 billion) by 2020, up from EUR27.5 billion (USD34.47 billion) for the year ended 31 August 2012. The company expects to grow store numbers from around 300 to 500 and to double visitor numbers to 1.5 billion by 2020. Staff numbers will rise to over 200,000 from around 150,000.
The plans were revealed in a new sustainability strategy report called People & Planet Positive. Under the plan, IKEA will invest EUR1.5 billion (USD1.88 billion) between 2009-2015 in solar and wind power to produce 70% of the group’s energy. By 2020, the group aims to produce as much energy as its operations consume.
