Edeka to create 8,000 new jobs in 2009

German food retailer and wholesaler Edeka has said it plans to hire 8,000 new staff in 2009. In an interview with Hamburger Abendblatt, Edeka CEO said he anticipates its discount business to grow, especially in times of economic crisis. He also said that the company had not yet been impacted by the credit crunch, and plans to expand its market share in Germany to 30% by 2010 by opening 1,000 stores between 2008 and 2010.
